HALONG (JOSE) has been downgraded into a Typhoon as it continues to weaken slowly...shifted its course towards the north-northwest while moving across the Philippine Sea...heading towards the Southern Islands of Japan.

This intense typhoon will enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional to frequent rains, and thunderstorms with gusty winds (not exceeding 65 kph) across Western Visayas, MiMaRoPa, CaLaBaRZon, and some portions of Western and Central Luzon including Metro Manila through Wednesday. 
The threat of flash floods and landslides are likely in hazard-prone areas especially along river banks and mountain slopes of the affected areas during the occurrence of severe thunderstorms. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.

Residents and visitors along Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands, and Southern Japan should closely monitor the development of TY Halong (Jose).

2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

TY Halong (Jose) is expected to continue to move north-northwestward during the next 24 hours...veering to the north to north-northeast through 48 hours. On the forecast track, Halong (Jose) will just be moving across the open waters of the North Philippine Sea as it heads towards Okinawa-Ryukyus Area through Wednesday.

Halong (Jose) will continue to weaken slowly throughout the forecast period. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 10-minute maximum sustained winds decreasing to 155 kph by Wednesday afternoon.

The following is the 3-day forecast outlook summary for this system:

TUESDAY AFTERNOON: Continues to lose strength as it turns to North-Northeast towards the North Philippine Sea...about 805 km east-northeast of Santa Ana, Cagayan [2PM AUG 05: 19.9N 129.6E @ 155kph].
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Continues to slightly weaken while over the North Philippine Sea...turns Northward...about 435 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan [2PM AUG 06: 23.4N 130.4E @ 180kph].
THURSDAY AFTERNOON: Weakens further as it approaches Okinawa-Ryukyus Area...about 280 km east of Okinawa, Japan [2PM AUG 07: 26.5N 130.6E @ 140kph].
