Tropical Storm Wukong (Quinta) has made landfall over the town of MacArthur, Eastern Leyte...weakened slightly as it continues to cross Central and Western Leyte. Stormy weather prevailing across Eastern Visayas.

Wukong (Quinta) will continue to enhance the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and bring moderate to strong winds with "on-and-off" rains across the Bicol Region, Eastern & Southern Luzon today through Wednesday.

Residents and visitors along Bicol Region, Southern Luzon and the Visayas should closely monitor the development of Wukong (Quinta).

CURRENT STORM ANALYSIS

As of 12 midnight today, the center of Tropical Storm Wukong (Quinta) was located over Central Leyte...about 11 km west of MacArthur, Leyte or 40 km east-southeast of Ormoc City, Leyte...currently moving west-northwest with a forward speed of 24 km/hr in the general direction of Northern Cebu and Panay Area.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) have decreased to 65 km/hr near the center with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-117 km/hr) extend outward up to 30 kilometers from the center Wukong (Quinta) is an average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 445 kilometers across. The 24-hour rainfall accumulation near and to north of the center of TS Wukong (Quinta) is estimated to be heavy (300 mm).


3-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

Tropical Storm Wukong (Quinta) is expected to continue moving west-northwestward during the next 24 to 48 hours...with a turn to the west through 72 hours. On the forecast track, the core of Wukong (Quinta) is expected to traverse the northern tip of Cebu, passing over or very close to Bogo City early this morning (approx 3-4AM)...and make its second landfall over Panay Island this morning (approx 8-9AM). By Thursday early morning, Wukong (Quinta) may pass just north of El Nido, Palawan before moving out into the West Philippine Sea...and should be exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around midnight on Saturday (Dec 29).

WUKONG (Quinta) is forecast to slightly weaken during the next 24 hours as it traverses Visayas...and could be downgraded to a Tropical Depression (TD) later today. Once the system reaches the Sulu and West Philippine Seas late this evening, it will regain Tropical Storm status.

The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:

THURSDAY MIDNIGHT: Moving over the West Philippine Sea...re-intensifies...about 44 km north of El Nido, Palawan [12AM DEC 27: 11.7N 119.7E @ 65kph].
FRIDAY MIDNIGHT: Moving farther away from the Philippines...continues to intensify...about 524 km west-northwest of Coron, Palawan [12AM DEC 28: 12.5N 115.4E @ 75kph].
SATURDAY MIDNIGHT: Turns west-southwestward while over the West Philippine Sea, exits the PAR...starts to weaken...about 410 km east-southeast of Nha Trang, Vietnam [12AM DEC 29: 11.6N 112.9E @ 65kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.

INNER RAINBANDS - affecting and spreading across Masbate, Ticao, Leyte, Camotes, Northern Cebu, Bohol, Samar, Biliran, Dinagat and Siargao Islands, . Tropical Storm Conditions with Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-85 kph) will be expected along these bands.
OUTER RAINBANDS - affecting and spreading across The Rest of Bicol Region, Rest of Visayas, Romblon, and Northern Mindanao. Tropical Depression Conditions with moderate to strong winds (<62 kph) will be expected along these bands (click here to know more about Rainbands).
24HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 100 mm (slight to heavy rainfall) can be expected along areas affected by the outer & inner rainbands (see above)...with isolated amounts of 101 to 200 mm (heavy) along areas near and north of the center of Wukong (Quinta).
