KUJIRA (DANTE) BECOMES THE FIRST TYPHOON OF THE 2009 SEASON...ALREADY
REACHED ITS PEAK OF 215 KM/HR 12 HOURS AGO...NOW WANING IN STRENGTH
AS IT HEADS EAST-NORTHEAST CLOSER TO IWO TO AND CHICHI JIMA ISLANDS.

+ FORECAST OUTLOOK: KUJIRA is expected to continue accelerating NNE to
NE-ward in the direction of the Philippine Sea. The 2 to 5-day Long Range
Forecast still shows KUJIRA accelerating NE to ENE away from Bicol and
the Philippines but intensiying to 110 kph.

+ EFFECTS: KUJIRA's main circulation has become disorganized. Outer and
inner rainbands, eye and its eyewall remains intact but is not affecting
any islands at this time. 1-day rainfall accumulations of 100 up to 200
mm is possible along its rain bands.

HOURS AFTER FORMING A SMALL, ROUND EYE AND PEAKING IN INTENSITY
DURING THE EARLY MORNING NEAR 115 KNOTS. ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL
SATELLITE IMAGERY AND A 042051Z SSMI/S IMAGE SHOW THAT THE EYE HAS
FILLED WITH A SMALL (120 NM DIAMETER) SYMMETRIC CONVECTIVE MASS WITH
NO CONVECTIVE BANDING. ANIMATED WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CONTINUES TO
SHOW STRONG POLEWARD OUTFLOW AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING MIDLATITUDE
SHORTWAVE TROUGH, HOWEVER, THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH HAS STARTED
IMPINGING ON THE WESTERN PERIPHERY OF THE SYSTEM. THERE IS GOOD
CONFIDENCE IN THE CURRENT POSITION BASED ON STRONG CORE CONVECTION
