TYPHOON FITOW (10W) WEAKENED DOWN TO A CATEGORY ONE SYSTEM
...
NOW ACCELERATING WEST-NORTHWESTWARD...THREAT TO SOUTHERN JAPAN
GROWS.

+ FORECAST OUTLOOK: FITOW is expected to continue moving WNW for
the next 24 hours before turning NW'ly, reaching peak intensity
of 165 km/hr (Cat 2) by tomorrow afternoon (Sept 5). The 2 to 4-
day forecast shows the system moving poleward (north) and shall
be off the Southern coast of Honshu before noon Thursday (Sept
6). The core (eye & eyewall) of the typhoon shall make landfall
just to the ESE of Tokyo Bay or just east of Numazu late Thurs-
day afternoon (Sept 6) - passing the west of Metropolitan Tokyo
in the early evening, around 8 or 9 PM Japan Standard Time (JST).
FITOW shall weaken abruptly as it crosses the Central part of
Honshu during the early morning hours of Friday, Sept 7, becoming
an Extratropical Cyclone Saturday, Sept 8 while over the southern
coast of Hokkaido, on its way across Kuril Island Chain

+ EFFECTS: FITOW is currently not affecting any Pacific Islands
at this time.
